I would have to say my claim to financial fame came from taking advantage of the D2 market. I never bought things from 3rd party sites (I was in middle school and too young, and I just felt it was cheating a little), so I had to acquire all my items from the game. The way I gained most of my wealth was by taking advantage of the D2 market. At some point, probably around 1.10, there was a dual leech ring (I forget it's name) that was believed to be worth between 2 and 3 SoJ, depending on who was buying and who was selling. I acquired a few, then I would sell them for 3 SoJ each. I would go back to the market, buy up as many as I could for 2 SoJ each, then resell and $$$$$.
I made some pretty good money this way, but my greatest financial score was with my Ith bow. This was at the height of their value in D2, when they were first hacked into the system. I didn't have nearly enough SoJs to buy one (their market value was somewhere around 100 SoJ) but I desperately wanted one. I happened to come across a wealthy D2 player who had become somewhat of a collector, and was willing to trade me one of his Ith bows for an old school Light Sabre. I went off searching, and found one for about 15 SoJ. Went back, made the deal, and boy was I happy. I enjoyed it for quite a while, and then decided to sell. I sold the Ith bow on the market for 120 SoJ, so I made a hefty profit
Lastly, a little brain teaser for you all. If I have an Ith bow worth 120 SoJ, and I find someone who is willing to pay 120 SoJ, how do we go about trading it so that no one has the possibility of getting scammed?
