i think haunt + locusts will do a lot more damage, and both can affect several enemies, so in PvE it wont be as taxing on your mana, and a far better setup than f.ex firebomb or PD(poison dart kicks ass though)

I've recently gotten access to the beta and after trying Poison Darts with the Splinter rune I have a hard time replacing it with any other spell. Its absolutely amazing from all point of views. Excellent single target damage, low mana cost after patch (6 mana) and spammable. Stacking some IAS gear, this spell can really excel. I am only able to try Haunt without runes, but I'm not so impressed with its mechanics or damage output after recent nerfs.
So far I'd say Poison Darts is coming out ahead, the mana cost giving it a clear edge in my eyes =).

Agreed with you, merely quoting you because I've been saying this for awhile. However Haunt was good, until each patch they have reduced it and reduced it after seeing what it was capable of. I would replace Poison Dart with spiders only because mobs have to walk around spiders and it's animation is cooler than sitting their blowing darts.

What I've also noticed is that each spider halts the enemy for a bit, just like any spell does, but with the Leaping Spider rune it almost works like a stun. Wonder if that's actually meant to happen? Throwing out 3-4 jars just keeps the enemy very still. But testing in beta is a bit difficult because everything dies very quickly.

You can test this on King Leroic, you're correct it kinda "stuns" them, but I think it's a pathing issue/feature?(depending on how you look at it) Leaping Spiders causes enemies to walk around them, or attempt to, not really a stun per se, but acts as such. With that said, I'm going to say yes, it's intended, the spiders are "real" not spiritual/magical attacks, just as the Fetish Sycophants? So they can be used as walls kinda.

I was using this in Hardcore mode in beta, albeit things die too fast again with spiders. One thing to consider is these spiders may have the chance to hit more than twice on one target being that they are so close to their target upon jar crash. This means you can get a bit of extra damage out of them, I especially think this is good when vs bosses like Jondar, and you corner him with spiders.
The main reason I use Poison Dart over Jar of Spiders is the wait time while a jar is in the air. Also because if you use darts and mouse over a crowd, the 2nd or third dart hits a different target usually for me. Maybe I'm lagging though ( I lag badly) However I'm waiting for our higher spells to use as I think spiders will be replaced, just not efficient enough mana wise.

fire bats has to be one of my favourite WD skills because of its animation.
As for single target damage i thought this skill can spread onto other monsters if thay get caught in its path?

Ska raises a valid point, mainly that the air Jars have to fly through the air which consumes some time. Perhaps another high cost mana spell like Zombie Charger or Acid Cloud would be better for spending that mana. Although thats getting a bit off topic. Lets stick to Single Target spells =).
I still want to try out Dire Bats before I give my final verdict, so I guess before release its all speculation. Blizzard recently released 12 new spell videos one of them being Spirit Barrage. If you haven't checked it out yet you definitely should. Looks pretty cool, reminds me of Bone Spirit from D2.

i like to diversify, if you know your build i would go with something you don't have.
say you already have a psn dmg type may be go spirit realm type because you will encounter resistance type creatures

Without you suggesting spells we can't speculate..
And I have seen Spirit Barrage, looks solid. Not sure if I'll use it off the bat however, but looks solid.
