Who will be the better tank? Monk or Barbarian?

I was planning on making a monk tank but after reading some Barbarian skills it looks as though they can tank well and monk may play the healer role, I still would love to play monk tank though with self healing abilities.

In your opinion, are monks or barbarian better at tanking?

the barbarian are make for tank and whit a templar its the best tank team u can have

Monk have some really nice defensive skills, but he is not even close to tank like a Barbarian!

Barbarian have taunt abilities and spears to drag enemies away from your allies.

If you doubt make a "tank build" on a monk and compare the "protect" potential to this:

After reading both skill sets, Monks are more inclined to dodge attacks but Barbarian's have a lot of blow dampening/absorbing skills which might be better because there will probably be attacks you can't dodge and would be better to pop cool downs to absorb it.

Barbarian is defiantly the tank of diablo. Monk could be a semi-tank but still cannot compare to the barb as far as durability and tanky skills.
No mercy for the weak, no pity for the dying, no tears for the slain.

The monk was never supposed to be a tank.

Let us look into the Monk in Diablo 1:

There, the monk's abilities were concentrated in high dexterity and a fast hit recovery rate. His life rate was below death itself.

The barbarian is the typical clash-character. He can absolutely endure high damage.

I guess barbarian will also be the best tank. Usually classes with heals have less overall survivability than classes without.

I'd say late game monk would make a better tank.  High dodge rate, damage reduction cc, and heals
barbarian can't compete with that.

Ideally, you'll have a Barb, a templar.... and hopefully have a monk in your party.  Then you're an awesome tank.

That's the beauty of diablo.  If you want to try and make a Monk that can tank, then go right ahead.  You don't need to follow any particular build.  Go and experiment.

True.

Still couple of talents/abilities/passives dont make you tank. Yes they give you a huge option to survive but it's only for their duration. If you wanna be a tank you will need a healer behind you and you will be carried be him.

I'm sure that Barbarian is gonna be a better tank. To be honest Monk isn't even a tank it's a mobility dps class depending on fast killing enemies

i think the barb is the better tank, but in PvP against wizards, monks will have better cards ,cause they are much faster and also can do something like teleport with their attacks and, like you mentioned it, they can heal.

so monk is more for player-oriented gameplay, beacuse of the mantras and healing.
barb is more the "singleplayer-char" (i know there will only be online, but you can still run alone through the wilderness) , because he has fantasic skills, but none of them are giving other players advantages like the monk's skills does.

after all i've seen so far, i am definitely going to play a monk :P

barb will be the better tank but monk still got his heal but its not worth it to use!
