Also started same thread in the monk forums, just wanted to know peoples thoughts on which class make better tanks. I was planning on a monk tank but it seems barbarian tank seems more viable with a monk as healer. What are your thoughts?

If you want a class independent question put in into the same forum -> Questions ! (Or general discussion, same to me)
But do not multi-thread it please -.-

Barbarian is better tank than Monk.
But Monk have high dps and better carry for me.

monk is carry, barb is a tank... so much defense, but this certainly change in circunstances... (pvp, mvp, etc.)

abrb will be much better for tank 1st because monk has only dodge but def is reducing overall damage taken. 2nd baba will have more health like always and i count for some +tanking features for special items given to barb. monk's role will be heal-single dps bot. na di will be that bot!!!

Will Barb be able to tank effectively with a 2Hander or will a shield be pretty much required?
#7 Posted 21 February 2012 - 02:22 PM By
Nobody knows. 13 is the max level. There is nothing to tank and we have access to less than a quarter of the skills and runes.

After looking the skills of barb and monk, id say barb looks like tank and monk like healer.

Well Monks know Kung Fu and Barbs are morons...so im guessing Barbs since you don't have to be smart to play as a tank.

Depending on build, they should both get the job done, just in different ways. It's the age old armor vs. dodge tanking argument.

Depends I guess.
Build your characters to tank.
Monks - stack dexterity, cuz it adds dodge. Pick smart gear choices, lots of stamina and resistances... Use lots of defensive abilities, maybe a healing ability is smart too, use your evasion mantra.
Barbs - stack strength, cuz it adds armor. Your gear should have lots of strength/armor and stamina, perhaps there's a +defense mod, who knows.. Use defensive abilities, and abilities that help you gain your health back. Stack resistances too.
The only real reason you'll need a 'tanking' build is for Hardcore mode.

Monks are better. They use the force to win a battle.

made me lol
I think monk could make a viable evasion tank, with all the debuffs and such, probably more of a support role though. It just seems more natural for barbs to tank.

this isnt a standard mmo, its diablo. So there is no real need for a "tank". As long as everyone holds there own and isnt messing around in town everything shouldbe fine.

As far as I can tell only the Templar has an actual taunt, so I don't see how it matters who can take the most damage. Won't elites and bosses be smart enough to go after the "glass cannon" heroes and ignore the guy in platemail?
